Jill (Zoey Deutch) is devastated by the death of her sister Isabelle (Ciara Bravo) and doesn't feel like she can burden her parents (Gil Bellows, Tanis Dolman) with her feelings. So, she leaves voicemails on her sister's number, confiding everything that is happening in her life in San Francisco. She is blissfully unaware that Isabelle's number has been reassigned to Austin real estate agent Wes (Nick Robinson) and his voicemail is being filled up with her emotionally raw confessionals. Wes becomes fascinated by the voice of a stranger and when he learns about Jill's tragic back story, he travels to San Francisco to provide some healing. However, he neglects to tell Isabelle about their telephonic connection and as his feelings deepen, Wes debates whether to reveal that he is the new owner of Isabelle's number.
